Air Cleaner

As some folks know, the air cleaner case on old Subarus are notorious for oxidation and rusting. This one was no exception. I dismantled it completely, including removing the oil-swelled air filter gaskets. After disassembly, I cleaned up the rust with various abrasives, mostly a wire wheel and sandpaper. A couple of quick coats of some Rustoleum I had lying around will prevent rust in the future, and makes the air cleaner look slick. I cut the swollen sections out of the air filter gaskets and reattached them with gasket adhesive.
The fully reconditioned air cleaner section, complete with new vaccuum hoses, installed. It shows me quite how badly the engine bay needs some rustproofing attention!
