Specifications

The Subaru BRAT is a crossover car-truck that was essentially a precursor to the SUV's you see today. BRAT stands for "Bi-drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter" in case you were wondering- it's a bit easier on your mouth to just say "BRAT." They were made from 1977-1987 with a a model revision partway through the production run. From 1977-1981 you have the Generation One Brat, with round headlights, and from 1982-1987 was Generation Two, with square headlights. In addition, each generation had two different trim levels- the DL and the GL. The DL had two headlights while the GL had four- they look identical except for the headlights. The Generation One BRATs had a 1.6L 4 cylinder engine, while the Generation 2 had a 73hp 1.8L or an optional 93 hp 1.8L turbo for the '83 and '84 model years. For a transmission, they had a 4 speed manual FWD/4WD High/4WD low or a 3 speed automatic with push button "on demand" 4WD. There were 92,445 Brats sold in America.
