A page detailing how to swap your headlamps and front grill, using my 1996 OBS and a set of 1998 RS headlamps and grill. If you have any questions or comments, please direct them here.

Here is what we have to start with- an OBS with an RS front bumper swap, begging for better lights and a facelift. The OBS headlights are not bad, but mine are rather sandblasted, and a set of 98 headlights became available, thus the swap.

First, push down gently on the top grill clips; one on the left

and one on the right. With those popped, the grill should pull up and forward and off the car.

Next, unplug both headlamp connectors- press in on the 3 and 9 o'clock positions to unlock the retaining clips.

Next, remove the two bolts on the inside edge of both of the headlamps- these are 12mm bolts.

Remove the retaining screw holding the corner marker in place

Pull the corner marker straight forward gently but steadily, and it will pop free

Next, remove the two 12mm bolts on the outside edge of the lights on each headlamp

With all the bolts removed, simply pull the whole assembly forward and off the car

Next, put one of the new lamps in place, and simply reverse the removal process

Headlamps in place

RS grill in place, freshly painted and the only clean thing on the car other than the new headlamps

The completed project- you can see how the 93-96 style hood does not quite fit right around the headlamps

Just a side shot to show how the scoopless pre-97 hood does not fit quite right. It will work fine until I put the aluminum hood on the RS and move the stock RS hood to the OBS.
