This page details how to install a power antenna in the driver's side rear quarter panel, as found on Impreza's in Japan and Europe. You will need a body shop to cover up and repaint your A pillar once you remove the stock antenna, and you may want to have them make the physical hole for the antenna as well- that is left up to the reader. This page will detail the physical specifications of the power antenna unit, a description of the wiring harness pins (the antenna will not come with a wiring harness), and the physical installation. Any questions or comments I would be happy to try and answer.

This is just a quick explanation of the parts on the 'business end' of the power antenna module.

Here you can see the antenna signal lead and the drain tube for the unit. This tube attaches to the same outlet the drain from the sunroof does, and it allows any water that manages to get into the unit to flow out harmlessly.

Here is the location of the harness connector on the unit- this will face towards the outside of the car when it is eventually mounted.

This is a closeup of the connector. As you can see there are six pins in the connector. The picture below is an explanation of what each pin is for.

Things started to look complicated when I saw six pins on the connector... I was expecting three at most. I was testing each pin to + and -, and it became apparent I would have to see the other end of these pins to figure out what was going on. Be thankful you do not have dissasemble the unit- it is full of grease and while easy to get apart, it was a pain to reassemble. However, it provided the needed information. Three of the six pins have no purpose other than to affix the connector body to the control circuit board inside the housing. The only pins you need to worry about are 3, 4, and 6. "3" is the remote turn on lead, and is almost always the "blue" wire off of an aftermarket head unit. "4" is a power lead (+) that only works off of accessory power (or constant power if you wired the headunit to run when the ignition was off). "6" is the ground (-) wire. You can make a small connector harness out of spade-type push connectors to ease installation and removal.
From here, I need to drill a large hole, run about a 12 foot antenna extension lead, and wire this thing up, plus the expense of having the A pillar antenna removed and the resulting hole filled in. Check back occassionally, and I will probably have this all done at some point or other.
