In the never-ending quest to lighten the car a bit more, one can find a rather heavy weight buried inside the small jack plate on the front engine crossmember. I cannot for the life of me find a reason for it being there- some people have theorized it keeps the plate from bending under the weight of the jack, but my jack plate bent long before the weight came out. In any event, it's very easy to remove.

From the front of the car, you should see two bolts. They are held in by two nuts that should be welded to the top plate and therefore be captive nuts, but one or both may have or might come loose on you. Remove these two bolts.

From behind, you will find two more nuts that bolt into threaded holes the crossmember- no nuts to lose. Remove them while holding up the bottom half of the jack plate.

Step back and let go of the plate. This funny 5 pound chunk of junk will fall out. Bamf! Instant 5 pound drop from the nose of the car, pushing it closer to 50/50 weight distribution ever so slightly. Put the bolts back that you removed, and you will be done. Incidentally, see those Green Ruboff Doc Marten 3 hole shoes? Find me a red pair in US size 11 or UK size 10 and I'll be your debt forever.
